Abraham STORCK

Abraham STORCK (1635-1710)

Flemish artist, he specialized in marine paintings.
His name is mentionned in the guilde of Saint Luc register from 1679.

Although he never went to Italy, Abraham Storck painted many views of this country, especially harbours. He also painted characters in the paintings of Moucheron and Hobbema. His evocations of the Dutch coast are easy to identify, thanks to their exactness.

He was probably inspired by engraving and drawing of monuments there which he painted with his own arrangement. Storck was the precursor of Architectural capricci, which style became very popular in the XVIIIth century.
