A fine Louis XVI period marquetery "Bonheur du jour" cabinet stamped Chaumond, Master in 1767.
The rectangular rosewood marqueterie top above a small drawer and twoo small doors, a drawer with a writing surface, raised on square tapered legs.
A bonheur du jour (translation would be "daytime delight") is a type of lady's writing desk.
It was introduced in Paris circa 1760 and speedily became intensely fashionable.
The bonheur du jour is always very light and graceful, with a decorated back, since it did not stand against the wall (meuble meublant) but was moved around the room (meuble volant).
Signed by B.A.CHAUMOND, Me 1767.
France, Louis XVI period, circa 1780.
